Akshay Kumar says Amitabh Bachchan told him ‘kaam karte rehna’ to do 4 films in a year.
Akshay Kumar acknowledges complaints about overexposure while shooting four films in a year. The actor says it is his own work and the audience will appreciate this good work.
Akshay Kumar has been dealing with overexposure issue and has shot 4 films in a year. The actress, whose new movie Saphira was released today, told Galatta Plus that her work is something she believes in and that she does not want to rely on box office success.
Even Amitabh Bachchan advised him not to quit. (Also Read: Akshay Kumar says on Saphira that he remembers his father dying to kill his emotions: ‘I don’t use glycerin’).
What Akshay said??
During the interview, when Akshay was asked about overexposure, he said: “Can you give me a guarantee that if I do one film in two years that it will work? There is no guarantee and I have seen people do that and then the film does not work, and they get no films for the next year.
It is all about doing films with commerce also and what you want to give the audience. It is creativity and commerce mixed together. A lot of people say that I do four films in a year, overexposure, but Sir, what else to do?”
Amitabh said to Akshay, “Kisi ka baat mat sunna.”
Amitabh went on to share what he learned from Bachchan and said, “Akshay, kaam karte rehna beta! He himself told me, “Don’t fight to work, come to work , just listen to someone talking.
The audience will not like a good movie, they will read it” when the work is done for you. Don’t listen to others, if the audience likes your work they will take it away from you. The audience is smart).
Akshay had two releases this year so far- Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sarfira. Sarfira is the Hindi remake of Suriya-starrer Sooraraii Pottru. He has Khel Khel Mein next, followed by Skyforce and Singham Again.
Akshay, while speaking to Baradwaj Rangan of Galatta Plus, said that he worked for 12 days for his supporting film OMG 2 and 45 days for his upcoming Jolly LLB 3.
Akshay says that he cannot force himself to give more time than he needs to the producers and the production staff and that he worked for a full 80 days on his last film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. “Kya ukhaad liya (What difference does it make)?” he asked rhetorically, referring to the film’s commercial failure.
He said, “I’ve seen people who work selectively, and their films flop as well. In our industry, what happens is that people stop offering you work if you deliver flops. Look at Mr Bachchan.
He was the one who told me, ‘Akshay, kaam karte rehna beta. Kaam ko mat chhorna (Akshay, don’t turn down work). I learned this from him… Calculation is wrong, manipulation is wrong. Honesty is right, creativity is right. Believing in your luck is right. This is what I’ve learned.”
In the same interview, Akshay talked about being left out of the industry and said that he is not a “racehorse”. He also said that some people in the industry celebrate when he fails. However, he did not list any names and noted that he hated the politics around him.
Last year, Akshay acted in only two films: OMG 2, for which he had no director, and Sooryavanshi, which had a few stars and a big-time director. Her recent celebrity flops include Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Samrat Prithviraj, Selfie, Bachchhan Paandey. He can now be seen in Safira (remake of Soorarai Pottru).
