In the year 2024, the Bihar Lok Sabha opinion poll survey: The results of the India Today ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey, which was released on Thursday, indicate that the INDIA bloc consisting of the RJD and Congress is likely to see significant gains in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This is despite the fact that Nitish Kumar is reversing his position and forming an NDA government in the state with the support of the BJP.
According to the opinion survey, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could lose seven seats from its total of 39 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, which were held when the BJP and JD(U) contested the polls jointly. The INDIA bloc parties are anticipated to together obtain eight seats out of the forty Lok Sabha seats in the state. This percentage represents a seven-seat increase over their previous record, which consisted of the Congress party winning a single seat among opposition parties.
It was on the same day that Nitish took his oath of office as the Chief Minister of the NDA administration that the survey was carried out, which was between December 15, 2023 and January 28, 2024. It is highly probable that the survey did not adequately represent the feelings of the voters in response to the political events that took place at the end of January 2019.
The BJP won 17 seats in the Lok Sabha elections that took place in 2019, while the JD(U) won 16 seats and the unified LJP won 6 seats. Only one seat was won by the opposition alliance, which consisted of the RJD, Congress, and Left parties.

The vote share forecasts that were presented in the study indicate that the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) vote percentage may experience a slight decrease, going from 53% to 52%. When compared to the results of the elections in 2019, the total number of INDIA parties might potentially increase to 38 percent, which would be a seven percentage point increase.
Since the most recent elections, there have been multiple shifts in the alliances that govern Bihar, notably the one that was orchestrated by Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United in this case). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has formed coalitions with a number of smaller parties in order to get support from particular caste groups, is now confronted with the difficult challenge of reconciling those caste groupings.
