Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed all officials in the state to pull up their socks and work efficiently in extending relief and helping flood victims, following the unprecedented rainfall and floods.

According to a government release, 2,684 km long roadways were damaged in the recent torrential downpours and over 1.8 lakh agricultural fields suffered crop losses, affecting farmers in 20 districts.
As many as 323 trains were cancelled in Vijayawada, 170 diverted and 12 partially cancelled as on Tuesday.
This took the total number of people affected by flood to 6.4 lakh throughout the state. As many as 190 relief camps were opened and 44,041 people were accommodated in the relief camps.

One of the residents of Ajit Singh Nagar said that his family waded through waters, which were waist-deep for about two kilometres, and further travelled to reach Vijayawada railway station.
“Many families have already left and more are leaving for their relatives and friends’ homes locally and other places. People are fearing that there would be no power for 10 days,” the resident said.
The blackout in Ajit Singh Nagar has already entered its third day while some water has receded.
Apart from several discomforts, acute shortages of electricity saw people throng railway stations to recharge their mobile phones.

The government has appealed for voluntary contributions of food, which should be delivered at a single point in Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada.
