Updates on the Fifth Phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Election: Live Voting: Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 has begun with voting in 49 constituencies spread across six states and two Union territories.

In the fifth phase of voting, 67.15% of eligible voters cast ballots in Ladakh, and the ECI reports that 56.68% of eligible voters cast ballots in 49 seats as of 5 pm.

On election day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a message encouraging young people and women to cast their ballots in big numbers. A tempest of transformation, according to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, was engulfing the nation.

As of 1 pm, the voter turnout for the 49 seats that were up for grabs in phase 5 of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections was 36.73%, as reported by the Election Commission of India. According to the election panel, the following states had the highest voter turnout: Ladakh (52.02%), West Bengal (48.4%), Jharkhand (41.8%), and Uttar Pradesh (39.5%). Up to 1 pm, the turnout in the Baramulla seat in J&K was 34.79%. Up to 1 pm, the turnout in Maharashtra was approximately 27.78 percent.

By the end of the four rounds of voting, 66.95 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots, as announced on May 16 by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Voting starts at 7 am and is currently taking place in fourteen constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, thirteen in Maharashtra, seven in West Bengal, five in Bihar, five in Odisha, three in Jharkhand, and one in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Several major seats in the Lok Sabha are up for grabs in the fifth round of elections in 2024, and a number of well-known politicians and ministers are running for these seats. The voting percentage surged in the fourth round of the elections, following a decline in the first three phases.

Rahul Gandhi (Rae Bareli, UP), Smriti Irani (Amethi, UP), Rajnath Singh (Lucknow, UP), Karan Bhushan Singh (Kaiserganj, UP), Rohini Acharya (Saran, Bihar), Chirag Paswan (Hajipur, Bihar), Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Ujjwal Nikam (Mumbai North-Central), and Omar Abdullah (Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir) are major contenders.

Voting is underway today in 35 assembly constituencies in Odisha in addition to 49 Lok Sabha seats. In today’s fifth round, more than 8.95 crore voters can cast their ballots, comprising 4.69 crore men, 4.26 crore women, and 5,409 electors of the third gender. More than 7,81 lakh people are registered as 85 and up, including 24,792 voters who are 100 and up as well.

Today, 94,732 election stations were staffed by around 9.47 lakh polling workers.

Phase 5 of voting for the Lok Sabha seats began today. In 2019, the BJP won 32 seats and its allies gained 7. With over 40% of the vote in 30 seats, the saffron party emerged victorious.

Only Raebareli, out of 49 seats, was won by the Congress in 2019. Seven seats were won by its allies, including the TMC led by Mamata Banerjee.

From the 49 constituencies that cast ballots today, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took home 39 seats while the INDIA bloc parties came away with 8. In 2019, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) took home the other two seats.

The election for nearly three-quarters of the 543 Lok Sabha seats (428 seats) will be concluded by the fifth phase of polling, with 49 seats being held today. May 25 and June 1 will be the dates of the last two stages. On June 4, the results of the seven rounds of the Lok Sabha Elections will be tallied.
