During his childhood, Ranbir Kapoor stated, “God was a very big thing.” He also mentioned that he had been reading a lot about Sanatana Dharam in the last few years.
Working on Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated film Ramayana, in which he plays Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi plays Goddess Sita, is Ranbir Kapoor’s current project.

On his relationship with God:

“So when I grew up, my father (Rishi Kapoor) was really pious,” said Ranbir. He used to perform two pujas every day, and we celebrated all the festivals and had Navratas at home, so I grew up believing in God a lot. Since my mother, Neetu Kapoor, was not as religious, I believe it brought my father a great deal of peace.

As a result, even in difficult situations, when I feel like my mother is fighting with me and I don’t want to have another difficult conversation with her in which she sobs and says things like that, I have a positive feeling about God. Or I want to buy something, or I want a movie to be successful. I’ve never made such a request.

‘You believe in Sanatana Dharam or you don’t’:

He added, “I started believing a lot in the Sanatana Dharam. I think I started reading a lot about it in the last couple of years. I went quite deep into what it is, what the effects are. And see, you believe it or you don’t believe it. If you believe it, it is like hope. It is like giving yourself a good system, good values… I think there is something good about it. I feel connected.”

Ranbir told Nikhil Kamath, “My father was very pious when I was growing up. That’s how I understood religious values.” He used to perform two pujas daily and offer prayers in observance of Diwali. A Ganpati would stay at RK Studios for ten days, and we would bring one home for five. Growing up, we observed Navratri, so God was very important to us.

My father felt so much peace from it. I have a positive perception of God even though my mother was not particularly religious. She used to do it because it made him happy and we saw them when we were young.

Ranbir also talked about how, at a very young age, he stopped pleading with God for things. “I quickly discovered how powerful my manifestation power is. I was receiving answers from God far too quickly when I asked. I stopped asking when I was very young, figuring I would save it for a rainy day. Since then, all I do before going to bed is give thanks to God.

I never ask God for anything, not even when my mother is fighting and I want to avoid having a heated argument or for a movie to be a hit. So thankfulness is the foundation of my relationship with God. I’m really appreciative of the situation I’m in,” he said.
