Chandigarh: BJP wins Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor jobs, shocking I.N.D.I.A.

On Monday, candidates for the Bharatiya Janata Party were successful in winning the positions of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the Chandigarh local council elections. This victory is a significant boost for the party in front of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. BJP candidate Kuljeet Singh Sandhu emerged victorious in the election for the position of Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh. The saffron party received 19 votes out of a total of 36 ballots that were polled, while Congress and AAP received 16 votes altogether. When this was going on, one of the votes was ruled illegitimate.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Sharma, a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emerged victorious in the race for the position of Deputy Mayor, defeating Nirmala Devi, a candidate for the Congress party. Sharma received 19 votes out of a total of 36 ballots, while Devi was only able to secure 17 votes during the election. The results of the polls that took place on Monday are being described as a significant shock for the I.N.D.I.A. group in front of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Why were re-elections necessitated?

On Monday, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation held elections for the positions of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. These elections were held for the newly elected positions. Earlier on February 20, the Supreme Court ordered Kuldeep Kumar, the defeated candidate for the AAP-Congress alliance, to be the new mayor of Chandigarh. This decision overturned the results of the Chandigarh mayoral election, which had been held on January 30. The BJP nominee had emerged as an unlikely winner in the election.

Kumar, a councillor for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who was recently appointed to the position of Chandigarh mayor, was the one who oversaw the election process for the two positions.BJP wins Chandigarh mayor poll as 8 INDIA votes invalidated | Chandigarh News - Times of India

Tempering allegations in Jan 30 polls

Manoj Sonkar, a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), became victorious over Kumar in the election held on January 30. AAP and Congress councillors decided to abstain from voting in the elections for senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor seats because of allegations of ballot fraud. As a result, Kuljit Sandhu and Rajinder Sharma, both candidates affiliated with the BJP, were successful in their bids.

Gurpreet Singh Gabi, a member of the Congress council, and Nirmala Devi, a member of the Congress party, were the candidates for the positions of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, respectively, in upcoming elections on Monday. Role of Mayor

Kumar recently took up the responsibilities of the mayor at the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, which was a result of a verdict from the Supreme Court that declared him to be the chief of the local body. It is the responsibility of the mayor to oversee the elections for the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor.

As an ex-officio member of the corporation, Chandigarh Minister Kirron Kher, who is also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is eligible to vote. In comparison, the Congress only has seven members, while the AAP has ten. A single councillor is a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal.

The Congress and the AAP are working together to fight the election in a coalition. In addition, the court had issued an order that the returning officer for the election, Anil Masih, a representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), be prosecuted for his “misdemeanor” after discovering significant weaknesses in the way the election was carried out on January 30.
