Pushtaini the feature directorial debut of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan’s acting instructor Vinod Rawat, is slated for release on June 21. Hrithik shared the movie’s trailer along with the announcement on his Instagram account. Since Hrithik’s critically acclaimed 2017 film Kaabil, Vinod and the actor have cooperated on other projects, including Super 30, Vikram Vedha, War, and this year’s Fighter.
Vinod makes his feature debut as an actor, director, writer, and producer with Pushtaini, which also features a cameo by actor Rajkummar Rao. At the 2023 Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, the movie made its debut in South Asia. In the teaser, Vinod plays struggling actor Bhuppi, who returns to his hometown in an attempt to have one more chance, only to learn that his father passed away a year prior. The rest of the movie follows Bhuppi on his quest to comprehend his father, humanity, and the outside world.
Recalling his initial viewing of the movie last year, Hrithik declared in a statement, “Vinod Rawat’s Pushtaini left me completely awestruck.” “Vinod demonstrated an amazing command over the craft as a filmmaker in addition to being an amazing actor who gave his all as Bhuppi. How he pulled off wearing all the hats and made a movie that I would remember long after the screen went blank amazed me. I’m thrilled to introduce Vinod to a larger audience and am proud of the risk he took with his debut. This is for the group. Hrithik continued, “This is for everyone who dreams, for those who face their anxieties and work to produce with integrity.
Vinod rose to prominence with the first season of Aarya, a Sushmita Sen television series he co-directed with Ram Madhvani. The director, who attended the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), thanked Hrithik for presenting the drama and called Pushtaini a “deeply personal” movie. “A first-time filmmaker only needs to take a bold step and hear a soft murmur from their close friends. It is a significant time for me to then have Hrithik’s backing, as I have known and appreciated him greatly throughout the years.
I’ve enjoyed working with him, so it’s great to be reteaming with him in a new role. I’m ecstatic that Pushtaini will eventually be available for public viewing after a very successful premiere at MAMI. I express my gratitude to Rajkumar Rao for acknowledging my creative vision and agreeing to provide a very special cameo to pushtaini. Vinod continued, “It is a very personal picture that addresses various delicate issues including a father-son relationship, the difficulties of migration, and an ambitious actor’s navigation through the complexity of his path. It was shot in my ancestral town in Uttarakhand.
Non-professional actors, including members of Vinod’s own family, are also featured in Pushtaini. Rita Heer, who also plays a significant role in the movie, co-wrote it. VinRaw Films and Lotus Dust Pictures are producing Pushtaini. On June 21, Shiladitya Bora’s Platoon Distribution will open the movie in theaters.
