Team India at PM Modi’s following T20 World Cup champions’ thunderous reception.

The winners of the T20 World Cup 2024, Team India, were greeted like heroes at the airport and team hotel before arriving at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home in New Delhi on Thursday, July 4. On Thursday morning, the Indian cricket squad arrived in New Delhi via an Air India aircraft that was rented from Barbados. The cricket heroes returned home with the trophy after a three-day wait on the Caribbean island following their victory in the T20 World Cup. A footage of the players removing the trophy from the chartered plane was released by the BCCI.

The winning team, comprising the players and the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff, was being hosted for a special breakfast by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian players’ remarkable World Cup campaign in the Caribbean will be shared with the Prime Minister. PM Modi was among the first to congratulate the players following India’s victory against South Africa at the T20 World Cup final on Saturday at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The team was met at the airport by a sizable contingent of supporters. Holding the trophy, Captain Rohit Sharma walked out of the airport. The crowd cheered for Virat Kohli, who waved to them and thanked them for their support.

Notably, after capturing the coveted title, the Men in Blue were left stuck in Barbados for four days because Hurricane Beryl had closed the airport. The World Champions were scheduled to return home via a special Air India chartered flight to Barbados as the weather cleared.

The team has finally arrived in India after a grueling 18-hour flight, and fans have been queuing up since late at night to greet their idols. Both the team hotel and the airport have special plans in place for the squad’s welcome.

Additionally, a unique cake in the shape of the World Cup Trophy has been baked specifically for the squad, and it will be sliced when they get to the hotel. For the whole team, welcome refreshments in the colors of the national flag are also available. After a special meeting with the prime minister, the squad will travel to Mumbai for a fan-only road performance that will take them from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium, where they will all be honored.

South Africa was defeated by Team India on Saturday in the T20 World Cup final. After MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma is the only other skipper to win the T20 World Cup trophy for India. In men’s cricket, it also marked the end of an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

In the major final held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, India scored 176. Following a career-high 76 runs from Virat Kohli, the bowlers took center stage. At one stage, South Africa was cruising, requiring just 30 off 30. But at the last moment, Jasprit Bumrah took the field and cast a stingy spell to give India the victory.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja all retired from Twenty20 international cricket after the win. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as coach came to an end at the same time.
